Welcome to Barren Creek Cottages!
Bay City, Illinois
In the heart of the Shawnee National Forest.

We are located 10 miles south of Golconda near Bay City
on the banks of Barren Creek and the Ohio River,
bordering Kentucky (click for map).  This area of the
Ohio River is known as the Smithland Pool, due to the construction
of the Smithland Locks and Dam 7 miles down stream from
Barren Creek Cottages at Ohio River mile 918.5, and it extends
upstream 72 miles to the Uniontown, Indiana Lock and Dam.

This huge expanse of navigable water offers excellent,
un-crowded boating and recreational activities
while enjoying the scenery and changing seasons
along the bluffs and islands of Illinois and Kentucky.

If the kiddies are needing to stretch their legs, just tie up
at one of the islands for playing in the sand, swimming or picnicking.

* * *

These waters and feeder creeks are a fisherman's paradise.  Fishing
tournaments are held each weekend during the late spring,
summer, and fall out of the Golconda Marina.

For the hunter, turkey and whitetail deer are abundant.

* * *

This area is surrounded by the Shawnee National Forest, which
is renowned for scenic areas, hiking, and riding trails.

* * *

A portion of the National Scenic Byway winds through our county.
The designated Ohio River Scenic Route highlights
natural and historic sites across the southern tip of Illinois.

Three state parks are located within 35 miles
offering history, walking, and swimming.

We have three Cottages suitable for your needs and all our cottages have the following:

The cottages are on the banks of Barren Creek
with private floating docks.
A public launching ramp and dock are on the property.

Rates are subject to 10% tax and are as follows (click on cottage for pictures):

      There is no charge for children under age 10.
